Stumble Upon2 suspected underworld members die in shooting with police
EnlargeMar 9, 2010 5:15 PM · Two men said to be underworld members died in a shootout with police at a forest area in Kurunegala in the early hours of this morning (Mar. 09), police said.
The duo had been arrested a few days ago over 28 murders and 15 robberies.
However, they had escaped from police last night and were making their getaway when the shooting occurred.
The alleged underworld gangsters have been identified as Chamara Chaturanga alias 'Grandpass Ahinsaka' and Sampath Dias alias 'Usa Sampath.'
The Kurunegala magistrate carried out the magisterial inquiry into their deaths.
